The Emerald Cut

Stones whose outlines are either square or rectangular and whose facets are linear and arranged parallel to the girdle are known as step-cut stones. These stones often have their corners truncated, creating an emerald cut (after its most common application to emerald gemstones) with an octagonal outline. This is done because sharp corners are points of weakness where a stone may cleave or fracture.

Ring for a pizza takes on a whole new meaning!

One pizzeria in New York really went all out for Valentine’s day!

“The ring is 8000 dollars, the bottle is 160 dollars and the pizza is about 19 dollars,” said Tom Favitta of Favitta’s Family Pizzeria in Henrietta.
Favitta hopes the unusual offer makes someone's Valentine's Day unusually romantic.

“We'll bring the ring, and I'll personally deliver it, with a little white cloth over my arm, and open the bottle for them."

The price tag of $8,180 US might be a bit steep for some lovers and lovers of pizza!

The birthstone for May is Emerald.

The name emerald is derived from the Greek word Smaragdos which means green stone. Only the finest of qualities are transparent. Emeralds often have inclusions which are not considered a fault but are evidence of the genuineness of the stone.

Emerald has always been considered calming, especially on the eye and in folklore is said to guard against snakebites and all weaknesses and diseases of man Carved emeralds under the pillow dispel bad dreams and if placed under the tongue evoke visions and premonitions.
